Description
The Danbury Police Department’s mission is to provide an environment for the people of Danbury that is free from the fear of crime, where people can enjoy a high quality of life and the community can prosper. The Danbury Police Department will deliver the best community oriented police services to the people of Danbury, and in partnership with the community, we will prevent and deter crime, enforce laws, maintain order and safety, solve problems and be visible and accessible.
The Danbury Police Department is in a state of transition as we seek to bring the best in law enforcement practices and technology to the people of Danbury. At the present time, we are undertaking projects to modernize our image, update our procedures, streamline the organization, put more police officers on the street, add the latest technology and build a new police headquarters building. Although the City of Danbury has invested heavily in its public safety, it is the exceptional men and women of the Danbury Police Department that brings our community the high quality of life it enjoys. Their tireless efforts continue to maintain a low crime rate that is the envy of many comparable mid-size communities in Connecticut and across the country.

Accomplishments
During 2006, the Danbury Police Department reported 53,031 calls for service, 42,998 of these calls were received from outside the Department while our officers initiated 10,033 calls. Crime remained virtually unchanged during 2006 and again the Morgan Quinto Awards recognized Danbury as one of the safest cities in America. The number of arrests remain the same while our traffic and quality of life enforcement increased.
In the last fiscal year, we continued to work on the State of Connecticut Accreditation for the Danbury Police Department. We completed impact negotiations with Local Union #891 over a proposed reorganization to put more police officers on the streets of Danbury. We will gradually phase in a new table of organization. We also started the initial work for our Public Safety Radio Renovation Project, installed new computers in our squad cars and started the process of equipping these cars with dashboard video cameras.
The most exciting news for the Danbury Police Department was that we broke ground for the new Police Headquarters on July 20, 2007. Construction will take 18 months to two years to complete. The new headquarters will greatly enhance the north entrance to Danbury, inspire other building in the neighborhood and bring a modern police facility to the City while providing for future needs of the Danbury Police Department.
